KAMBO MEDICINE
What is Kambo?
Kambo is the secretion produced by the Phyllomedusa bicolor frog also known as a giant leaf, monkey or tree frog. This frog has been given its name due to it living within the heights of the Amazonian tree's, having a distinct green colour and a body shaped similar to that of a leaf. The secretion is collected by stroking the frogs back and placing the liquid released onto bamboo sticks before being left to dry in the sun.
Kambo today has a range of therapeutic as well as traditional application styles and is used for both its medical and psycho-spiritual healing properties. This medicine is commonly known for its uncomfortable purgative effects that cleanse the mind, body and spirirt. Whilst it can be considered an uncomfortable process it is greatly appreciated and sought after for the phenomenal results experienced.

We highly recommend this book to anyone seeking to understand Kambo with or without the intention of experiencing the medicine.

Vittorio Espamer
The first chemist to study Kambo in a laboratory

Phyllomedusa Bicolor
Native to the Amazon the Phyllomedusa has no known predators and lives high within the jungle trees until it rains where they are then known to spend time around large water sources.
The Science of Kambo
Vittorio Erspamer, the Italian pharmacologist and chemist who is most commonly known for discovering serotonin, was the first to study Kambo within a laboratory. He described Kambo as a "fantastic chemical cocktail" with potential for medical application.
Although Vittorio analysed Kambo in 1986, there are recorded observations of the medicine from Father Constantin Tastevin who spent time with the Kaxinawa Tribe in 1925, Katherine Milton an American Anthropologist who spent time with the Mayoruna Tribe in the 1980's and most famously Peter Gorman who published a book about his experiences with Kambo following a number of visits to the Matses tribe.
All who have spent time with the various tribes that use Kambo medicine have reported the phenomenal benefits and in particular the potent peptides present within the secretions makeup. This is what Espamer referred to as a fantastic chemical cocktail.

PEPTIDES
PROTEINS
As depicted above, peptides are short chains made up of essential and non-essential amino acids. These are building blocks for proteins within the body.
Kambo contains a rich cocktail of biochemical compounds and peptides such as; Phyllomedusin, Phyllokinin, Phyllocarulein, Sauvagine, Adenoregulin, Deltorphin, Dermorphin, Litorin, Phyllolitorin. Many of these peptides are antibacterial and can work against drug-resistant bacteria and viruses that harm the immune system.
When Kambo's peptides enter the bloodstream they works with the body's signalling pathways to assist with removing harmful bacteria which causes the known, unpleasant, short term effect of vomiting. Although this process can be uncomfortable, the purging that takes place has remarkable long term benefits.

The Kaxinawa story of Kambo
In the depths of the Amazon jungle the people of the Kaxinawà tribe had all fallen terribly ill. Kampu, the medicine man of the tribe attempted to heal his people using all he knew but to no avail. He turned to what is known as the grandmother medicine, Ayahuasca, a drink created from the caapi vine to receive guidance on how to help his people. During this ceremony, Kampu received a message to seek out a specific frog and how to collect the secreation it holds within it's back and to then apply it to human skin for healing benefits. True to this guidance, Kampu was able to heal his people with what is today known and recognised as Kambo.
Our Kambo Ceremonies
The most common method known within the Western world is "Wet Kambo" in which you will be required to drink a litre and a half to two litres of water prior to the application of the medicine to encourage a purge. In fact, there is a second method explained by Peter Gorman in detail, in his book "Sapo In My Soul". Peter wrote this book following consistent travel to the Matses tribe in Peru to learn the authentic ways of harvesting and using the medicine. The method the tribe shared with Peter involved no consumption of water prior to application and is known as "Dry Kambo. At Internal Health our therapists are trained to carry out both methods and will advise which is best suited following the completion of the consultation process.
1:1 Ceremonies
Your therapist will create a taylor made package suitable to your needs following the consultation process. During your ceremony only yourself and the therapist will be present. You will have the opportunity to decide whether you would prefer the ceremony within the comfort of your home or within our facilitating spaces.
Joint Ceremonies
Joint ceremonies are ideal for couples and friends who would like to share their experience working with the medicine. You will complete individual consultation forms prior to the date of ceremony and the therapist will advise you individually however you will both be present in the same room during the day of the ceremony and experience the medicine together.

Group Ceremonies
These ceremonies are held in no more than a group of 6 with more than one trained practitioner present. From start to end there is a mutual energy of releasing present enriching the intentions and experience for all. For more information on our invite only group ceremonies please contact us via email.

These results have been found due to the Kambo medicine cleansing the liver and blood.
